1: Underrated: baby smiles. They are better than drugs.
2: Overrated: parenting. Oster-pilled in the early years; Caplan-pilled in the later years. Also overrated: my ego.
3: Overestimated: Sleep needed, complexity of diaper changing, usefulness of left hand, and my patience.
4: Underestimated: sleep desired, the price of diapers, usefulness of two hands, and room in my heart.
5: AI and education. I can’t not think about it.
6: 2,500 books is a lifetime of reafing. Would I recommend a book to this baby in 25 years?
7: Centuries are short. This baby will, God-willing, live in the 22nd century. Keep that in mind.
8: Context switching well is useful. (Choosing to focus, focusing quickly, and leaving well). Is it trainable?
9: Focused time is the limiting factor. There is more slack in the day and week thank you think.
10: But attention is scarcer than time. Priorities shift quickly. Move the bar higher for wasting time.
11: Be more opportunistic. Don’t wait for ideal conditions. This lesson is learned and relearned.
12: The point. Kids are the point. Anyone who tells you otherwise is selling you something.
